What are they? Kizik Sneakers

Why moms-to-be love them: Kizik’s shoes are supportive and super easy to slide on, which is helpful for pregnant woman who literally can’t bend over — or moms juggling multiple little ones.

How much are they? $89 - $159 (Price varies by style)

Where to buy them: Kizik and Amazon (select styles only)

You know that stage of pregnancy when you can no longer touch your toes? Tying your own shoes becomes out of the question. That’s when so many What to Expect moms swear by Kizik shoes

At first glance, Kizik shoes may seem like your average pair of stylish sneakers (which may have you questioning the higher-than-average price tag.) But Kizik sneakers utilize a hands-free design that makes it possible for you to simply step into the shoes without leaning down or bending over. There is a “cage” that compresses the heel when you step into the shoe, and helps the heel regain its shape once your foot is settled.

“The hands free slip-on was huge,” says Anne Matthews, What to Expect’s Marketing Directorand a mother of two. Anne wore Kizik’s Madrid Eco Kit and Vegas shoes during the final trimester of her second pregnancy and says they provided “the perfect amount of support for me — more than other casual shoes, but less than a bulkier sneaker.”

She continues to wear them two years later, and says they’re particularly great while trying to get out of the house with toddlers. “Once you realize hands-free slip on is an option, it’s hard to go back to anything else,” she says.

What to Expect Community members agree.

“Got them with my first pregnancy and I love them! They’re still the only sneaker I wear since they’re easy to slip on while holding a baby/toddler,” writes one community member.

“It’s so convenient not to have to use your hands or sit to get your shoes on, especially when wrangling a baby or toddler,” says another

Another shares, “[I] wore them through my pregnancy and still wear them PP since I can be carrying a bunch of things and just slip them on.”

But the ease of putting them on and taking them off is just one reason moms-to-be and moms are snagging these shoes. To start, each style has a unique feature that adds comfort. Everyday styles, like the Vegas and Prague, have cushioning on the heel, while sneakers like the Athens and Lima utilize Rabbit Foam on the sole for extra cushion.

Anne adds that the sneakers are made of a stretchy fabric, which is great if your feet swell throughout the day. She also noted that Kizik shoes are breathable and a “nice balance of being snug but not restricting or suffocating.” That said, some community members suggest sizing up if you have wide feet.

The one downside to Kizik shoes is the price, which can range from $80 to $159, depending on the style. But when you consider the longevity of these sneakers, they’re a worthwhile splurge.

Anne, who bought her first pair of Kizik shoes in 2021, says they've “definitely held up with frequent and heavy use over the last two years. I’ve run mine through the wash a few times and they clean right up and maintain their shape.”
