Best Maternity Lingerie

Quick summary

The best maternity lingerie is supportive and comfortable for your growing bump, yet still looks sexy and stylish, according to moms in the What to Expect community.

In This Article

Slipping into lingerie can give you a confidence boost, especially when you find pieces that fit your body perfectly. And when you’re pregnant, that extra confidence can go a long way to making you feel more comfortable in your new body. Even just wearing a lingerie set under your favorite pair of maternity sweatpants can be a mood-changer. Unfortunately it can be tricky to find maternity underwear and maternity bras that make you feel sexy, while also being comfortable.

Although you may be able to get away with wearing your pre-pregnancy lingerie (or simply sizing up on non-maternity options), there are certain features that make maternity lingerie a little more comfortable. Flexible underwire, for example, can give your breasts more support, especially if they’ve grown during pregnancy. Meanwhile, high-waisted belly panels better accommodate your bump and can help reduce back pain. You can also look for features that will make your pregnancy lingerie a great postpartum option, too: Clip-down strap or moveable cups make for great nursing bras and underwear that falls below the bump won’t fall off your body as your bump decreases in size.

Ultimately, the most important feature of any maternity lingerie is that it makes you feel good about your pregnant body. It should make you feel sexy and confident, whether you’re wearing it during a babymoon or on a random Tuesday.

How we chose the best maternity lingerie

There are plenty of options when it comes to maternity bras and underwear that support pregnant bodies. But there are fewer options that are designed to make you feel stylish and sexy. So we turned to What to Expect community members who've had success finding maternity lingerie that's functional and fashionable. I read dozens of testimonials from moms who wore lingerie while pregnant and could speak to what features to look for, as well as brands and specific pieces they loved. Given feedback from so many different moms and moms-to-be, I was able to narrow down my list of dozens of pieces of maternity lingerie, making sure each set was praised for comfort, support, style and versatility.

This Kindred Bravely lace nightgown is a favorite among What to Expect moms, as it makes you feel amazing but can be comfortably worn to bed. The modal fabric won’t irritate your sensitive pregnancy skin, and its stretch ensures the nightgown  has plenty of space for your belly to grow. A high empire waist means it will sit comfortably above your belly during pregnancy, yet will still fit nicely postpartum.

Another great feature of the Kindred Bravely nightgown is the racerback, which gives your breasts some light support without uncomfortable underwire. Plus, the clip-on/clip-off nursing straps will be perfect for breastfeeding moms once your little one is born. Although moms wish it had molded cups for more breast shape and support, reviewers still rave about how comfy this nightgown is overall.

Cache Coeur’s floral lace maternity bodysuit is perfect for your growing body. The elastane and cotton fabric give it plenty of stretch, while the four fastening positions make it easy to adjust the fit as needed. There’s no need to wear underwear with it, as there’s  an under-the-chest band that offers light support without digging into your skin. And — maybe most importantly — you don’t have to worry about pulling it on and off every time you have to run to the bathroom, especially during your third trimester: There’s a button opening on the crotch that simplifies things.

Once baby arrives, you can still wear this bodysuit as it has nursing clips that allow for quick, easy feedings.

Why We Love It

When you’re nursing, it’s essential to find a bra that offers enough support without feeling constrictive, feels nice against sensitive skin and nipples, and allows for convenient breastfeeding.

This lacy Seraphine maternity and nursing bra offers all the convenience of an easy-to-use nursing bra, as well as a subtly sexy design. The adjustable clip-on/clip-off straps make it easy to modify the fit throughout pregnancy and, because it’s not padded, it’s especially great for women with larger bust sizes or really sensitive breasts. The cups go up to an E cup, while the band goes up to 38 inches, so it has a decent size range.

One thing to note is that this bra does have underwire, unlike many maternity and nursing bras. However, some moms prefer this because of the added support, lift and shape it offers.

  • I ordered a seraphine bra the other day- it’s more supportive for sure. I’ll let you know my opinion when it arrives!”

  • “I ordered some nursing bras from this company. They're not cheap but not too pricey, and I'm really happy with the quality and comfort. Once I know what size I am during breastfeeding I'm going to order this one... I'm not sure if it's sexy but I think it's cute lol”

  • “Seraphine maternity is my favorite!! Their clothing transitions well from maternity to postpartum/breastfeeding which is great”

These Seraphine briefs are equal parts comfy and sexy, so you don’t have to sacrifice aesthetics even if you’re in your third trimester. These briefs have a unique semi-sheer lace that stretches over your belly, but isn’t scratchy. .

The soft breathable material will easily stretch with your belly  without stretching out.

The downside is that, because these are over-the-belly, you probably won’t wear them after pregnancy, and at $25 for just one pair, they’re a little pricey. If that’s a dealbreaker, Seraphine sells the same version in mid-bump length too.

  • 100% granny panties! They’re so comfy! I can’t stand anything below the bump. I just constantly feel the urge to pull them up. I also got some nice over the bump underwear at Seraphine for when I’m feeling like a fancy granny haha”

Practical but far from frumpy, Cake Maternity makes some of What to Expect moms’ favorite maternity lingerie. A standout is the Truffles Lace bra and underwear set, which has a French-inspired deco lace design that is classic but sexy.

The low-cut maternity and nursing bra utilizes flexi-wire that provides the same support as a hard underwire without the discomfort. Available in a range of sizes, the bra goes up to size 38I, which is incredibly difficult to find. Plus, the five hook and eye fasteners on the band allow you to easily adjust the size for the right fit throughout pregnancy. And if you want to extend the bra’s use, the fold-down cups make for easy nursing sessions.

Made of semi-sheer lace and a wireless design, many moms say Cosabella’s Never Say Never set strikes the perfect balance between comfort and style.

It features padded cups to offer plenty of support, even for larger bust sizes. Speaking of sizes, the bra goes up to 38F and 40DD, and is also available in a Curvy option that is ideal for larger busts and goes up to size 40H. What’s more, the bra’s clip-down nursing straps are easy to use one-handed once baby arrives.

It’s made of a stretchy material and has a loose fit that you’ll appreciate throughout pregnancy (and postpartum). But the empire waist keeps it from feeling like a shapeless sack.
